“The Church won’t be silenced.”

That compelling headline was given to a front-page article published today in Zambian national newspaper, The Post. The Christian Church in Zambia has been causing a stir by reprimanding political leaders. Like many other clergy in the nation, Father Simweleba has tired of seeing those in power prosper while most citizens live in desperate circumstances. He is indignant.

“The church is endowed with a clear mandate to preach the Gospel of Christ that promotes a life of loving one another and the love of God,” he stated.

But Father Simweleba also added that loving one another cannot end at words spoken, it must be lived out.

“The message that Jesus preached was about love but he challenged leaders and [political arrangements] that only benefitted a few at the expense of the majority poor.”
